Kathryn is a librarian at The York Hospital and she kindly took the time to tell us about her commute, her experience with BetterPoints - and her love of coffee!
"I saw BetterPoints York advertised on the Hospital's intranet and was tempted to sign up because I could get coffee for walking - which I do lots of because I hate driving!
My partner and I share a car but I get the bus to work and try to walk instead of driving as much as I can. We live in Acomb so we try to use the local high street to support local businesses and it's easy to walk.
I get the bus halfway to work. It takes about 25 minutes, then I walk the rest of the way in about the same amount of time. On the bus I can relax and I don't have to worry about parking. Hospital staff get discounted tickets so it's a cheap way to travel too. And the walk means I get my steps in, I get some fresh air and time to think - it's a really good way to let work go at the end of the day.
BetterPoints makes me feel good about choosing the sustainable option, so it definitely adds a little motivation. I really like the fact I can get coffees at Ellerby's at the Hospital - I've had three coffees now! I went to Ellerby's anyway because it's really good value but I've definitely been going more often since I've been able to spend my BetterPoints there.
I'll be spending all my BetterPoints on coffee - and I'll certainly be telling colleagues about it!"
